Riverwalk Happy Hours Guide: Drink by the Truckee River

The Truckee River runs through the middle of Reno in a way that most cities would kill for—a genuine natural feature cutting through the urban core, with a developed walkway on both sides and bars and restaurants positioned to take advantage of the views. The Riverwalk happy hour scene is the most underrated drinking corridor in Reno, and it's entirely possible to spend an entire evening moving between spots without ever needing to get in a car.

Here's what's worth your time along the Truckee.

Liberty Food & Wine Exchange — The Benchmark

Liberty Food & Wine is one of the best restaurants in Reno on any measure. Chef Mark Estee built something here that doesn't get enough national attention—a restaurant using Northern Nevada ingredients with the kind of care and technique that you'd expect to find only in larger cities. The happy hour deal is almost unfair: a $30 prix fixe pasta option that would cost twice that at dinner service.

The bar program at Liberty matches the food. If you're only doing drinks, you're still at one of the better spots in town. If you're combining drinks with the prix fixe pasta, you've discovered why locals treat this place as a regular stop rather than a special occasion destination.

Get a seat at the bar near the Truckee River side if you can. The view isn't dramatic but it's pleasant in a way that reminds you why someone built a restaurant here in the first place.

Wild River Grille — River Views and $7 Food Deals

Wild River Grille sits directly on the Truckee River with one of the better patio positions in Reno. When the weather cooperates—which it does more often than Reno's reputation suggests—this is the most pleasant outdoor drinking spot in the city.

The happy hour food deals are the draw here: $7 specials that include things like spicy Thai wings and crab-salmon cakes, both of which are legitimately good and wouldn't be out of place on the full dinner menu at a higher price point. The drink deals are solid without being headline-worthy. You're here for the food, the view, and the combination of the two.

This is locals' territory. The tourists mostly don't find Wild River Grille, which keeps the patio atmosphere from becoming chaotic. Go on a weekday if you want the best seat selection.

The Eddy — 24 Taps, Dog-Friendly Patio, 3–6pm

The Eddy is the Riverwalk's craft beer anchor. Twenty-four taps rotating through a well-curated selection of local and regional beers, with $2 off all drafts during happy hour from 3 to 6pm. The outdoor area is dog-friendly, which matters in a city with as many people who take their dogs everywhere as Reno has.

The format at The Eddy is casual in the best sense—it's a beer bar that takes its beer seriously without making you feel like you're being tested. The patio is the main event when the weather is right, and the Riverwalk location means you can combine a beer stop with a walk along the river without planning anything in advance.

Happy hour ends at 6pm, which means you need to actually show up before then. This is the Riverwalk's earliest closing happy hour, so plan accordingly.

Our Bar — $3 Street Tacos and Late-Night Happy Hour

Our Bar is the Riverwalk's value-play anchor, and it hits different from the others. The food deal is $3 street tacos, which are genuinely good—not gas station tacos dressed up with a clever name, but actual street-style tacos with proper fillings. The drink deal includes $3 house tequila, which makes the taco-tequila combination the best budget meal on the Riverwalk by a significant margin.

The late-night happy hour (15% off starting at 9pm) makes Our Bar a logical final stop on a Riverwalk evening. After Liberty Food & Wine and The Eddy, Our Bar is where you land when you want to extend the night without destroying the budget. The crowd gets lively later—it's a bar that functions differently at 10pm than it does at 6pm, and both versions are worth knowing.

The staff is friendly in a non-performative way. This is a neighborhood bar that happens to be on the Riverwalk, and it acts like one.

Planning a Riverwalk Happy Hour Crawl

The four stops above sit within a manageable stretch of the Riverwalk, making a progressive evening very doable on foot. Here's a practical sequence:

3:00pm — Start at The Eddy to catch the full happy hour window. Get a patio seat if the weather allows, try two beers from their tap selection.

4:30pm — Walk to Liberty Food & Wine for the prix fixe pasta deal or just the bar program. This is the elevated stop, so order accordingly.

6:30pm — Move to Wild River Grille for $7 food specials and river views. The patio fills up as the evening progresses, so this timing works well.

9:00pm — End at Our Bar when the late-night happy hour kicks in. Tacos, tequila, and a crowd that's ready to make the evening go longer.

The whole crawl covers maybe a half mile of walkable riverfront. Wear comfortable shoes and you won't need a rideshare until it's time to go home.

Why the Riverwalk Works

Most happy hour districts in mid-sized cities exist because bars cluster together in commercial zones. The Truckee Riverwalk is different—the river itself gives the corridor a reason to exist beyond alcohol delivery, and the outdoor areas at each bar are designed to take advantage of it. You're not just moving between interchangeable rooms. You're moving along a river with different spots offering different perspectives on the same geographic feature.

That sounds like marketing language but it's actually true. The Riverwalk happy hour circuit is the most pleasant evening you can have in Reno without spending a lot of money.
